The Best Live Shows of 2022! Or are they not?

We all love top lists, don’t we? Especially when it comes to an ultimate list, the list of lists, a list of the best live shows of 2022!

What determines a good live show?

A good live show stands or falls based on countless essential (and not so essential) factors. The sound has to be crisp, the beer just cold enough and the artist's mood is all-important. And despite the fact that we cannot take every factor, opinion or review into account, we have nevertheless made a well-calculated attempt. Here we go, a top 5 that we at Gigit don’t even agree on!

Let’s grab a beer and start the discussion…

5. Fontaines D.C. - Eventim Apollo

When? November 26, 2022
Where? Eventim Apollo, London, UK

At 5, the best band in the world, as they were named at this year's NME awards. A title they were only too happy to defend at Eventim Apollo in November!

This breathtaking show marked the end of their run of three successive sold-out nights at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo. The show was technically so incredibly well put together and then we haven't even mentioned the fantastic lyrics sung (and written) by Grian Chatten!

4. Lady Gaga - Chromatica Ball

Armed with a truck full of daring outfits, half dancing America and an unhealthy dose of energy, she ventures to the world's biggest venues. During her stadium tour, Lady Gaga once again reminded us that the crazier she gets, the better it all becomes.

Show after show, all equally overwhelming and surprising. We could therefore not choose just one show..

3. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Best Kept Secret

When? June 12, 2022
Where? Best Kept Secret, Hilvarenbeek, The Netherlands

‘Breathtaking’, ‘Pure Genius’ and ‘Best Show Ever!?’ are just a few of the reviews left by our users after Nick Cave's performance at the Dutch festival Best Kept Secret.

What Nick Cave himself left behind after this show? A large group of adults with tears of joy.

2. Rolling Stones - Estadio Metropolitano

When? June 1, 2022
Where? Estadio Metropolitano. Madrid, Spain

Satisfaction?! Still, even after 6 decades! (see what we did there?)

Even though it all doesn't sound as slick as it did a few years ago, the genius and nostalgia only seem to be improving. 53,000 people witnessed this during the kick-off of their 60th anniversary European tour in Madrid.

Before we go to our number 1…

1. Foo Fighters - Wembley Stadium

When? September 3, 2022
Where? Wembley Stadium, London, UK

Picking a number 1 is never easy. Especially when you have to make a choice between thousands and thousands of gigs, each with its own pros and cons.

However, there is one event that shook the music world, the passing of Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkings (second from left) on March 25th. It resulted in the most impressive show of the year and probably one of the greatest tribute concerts of all time.

Bands like Metallica, AC/DC, Queen and The Beatles were more than happy to join the show and the transitions from grief to joy seemed magical. But when Taylor's son Shane took the stage and took over his father's place behind the drums, we knew for sure, this was the gig of 2022!
